Is This How You Feel? Common Experiences with ADHD and Neurodiversity:

ADHD can make you feel like a constant and exhausting uphill climb. You might struggle to stay focused in conversations, forget tasks or appointments (even ones that are important to you), or feel restless even when you’re exhausted. Deadlines loom, your mind races, clutter builds, and relationships become strained from miscommunications or feeling judged.

It’s not that you aren’t trying; actually, you’re giving it your all! But sometimes it feels like no matter how hard you push, things slip through the cracks, and frustration and shame are quick to flare up.

At Calm Harbour Counselling in Calgary, we understand how frustrating and isolating this can be. We offer a supportive space where you can untangle these challenges, learn strategies that match how your brain works, and feel seen for who you are, not just how you function.

Therapy Goals For Neurodiverse Clients

Emotional Processing

Emotions like shame, frustration, and loneliness  add layers to the daily struggle of ADHD. Together, we’ll explore how it has shaped your experiences, relationships, and sense of self. Therapy offers space to name these feelings, build self-compassion, and begin accepting both where you are and what you’re facing - real steps toward lasting change.

Increasing Understanding

Knowing and understanding your executive functioning profile can shine a light on what’s been hardest and why. We’ll identify the specific areas that create daily friction and pain. Building on your unique strengths is key to tangible and practical changes in the areas that matter most to you.

Enhancing Emotional Regulation

Learn how to spot emotional and sensory triggers, pause before reacting, and respond with more calm and intention. Therapy can help you shift from feeling hijacked by emotions to feeling more in control and grounded, especially when facing setbacks, social stress, like feeling rejected or criticized.

Prioritizing and Organization

Therapy will support you in building realistic, tailored, and functional systems for planning, prioritizing, and breaking tasks into manageable steps. The goal isn’t perfection - it’s to reduce overwhelm, improve follow-through, and help daily life feel more manageable.

Discover ADHD Counselling in Calgary

If you’re living with ADHD, you already know it’s not just about focus or forgetfulness. It can touch
every part of your life—work, relationships, emotions, and how you see yourself. At Calm Harbour,
we’re here to help you make sense of it all in a way that feels supportive and real.

Unlike other clinics that offer quick fixes or one-size-fits-all plans, we focus on building a supportive relationship with you that celebrates your strengths, get to know what’s been hard for you, and work with you to find strategies that actually fit your day-to-day life.

We work with neurodivergent clients in a way that’s collaborative and affirming. Therapy is shaped
around your needs—whether you’re looking to manage big emotions, get a handle on day-to-day
tasks, or make sense of years of feeling misunderstood. You deserve a connection that makes you feel respected, seen, and supported, not judged.

We’ll be with you through the messy parts and the progress. We’ll cheer you on when things go well, and stay with you when they don’t. Over time, therapy can help you feel more grounded, more confident, and more yourself. Whether you’re new to ADHD or have been managing it for years, you deserve support that sees the whole you.

ADHD Couples Counselling

When one or both partners in a relationship have ADHD, it can shape the way you connect, communicate, and even argue. Maybe you’ve found yourselves looping through the same misunderstandings, or one of you feels ignored, and the other feels criticized. Forgotten plans, emotional outbursts, unbalanced responsibilities, or missed cues can start to feel personal.

We’ve worked with many couples who love each other deeply but still end up caught in patterns that feel disconnected. At Calm Harbour, we help you slow down and make sense of what’s really happening underneath the frustration, and truly feel heard and understood by one another.

Therapy isn’t about blaming or shaming; it’s an act of care for one another to learn how ADHD shows up in your relationship and collaborate and connect over what you can do about it together.

You don’t have to keep having the same argument, pleading for change, or unintentionally causing each other pain. If you want to feel more connected and supported in your relationship, reaching out might be the first step toward getting unstuck and back on the same team.

ADHD Therapy: Our 5-Step Process

Our Simple Steps to Getting Started.
Step One:

Gather up your courage and book a free initial ADHD consultation with one of our therapists by clicking here Don’t worry, you’ll even get a reminder two days and two hours before the appointment.

We know ADHD brains can struggle to get started, so if all that feels possible right now is taking 10 sessions to reach out, just fill out our contact form, and we’ll get back to you asap. It can be difficult to take that first step, and we’re here to make sure the process is clear and you feel supported.

Step Two:

Make sure it’s a fit during the no-pressure connection call by sharing more about your hopes and concerns, asking any questions you might have, and discussing what change in managing your ADHD means to you. If you’re nervous or hesitant, we’ll take the lead, ask the right questions and make sure you know how therapy will help you by the end of our chat.

Step Three:

If you felt a connection, you can book a first session with your selected ADHD therapist in your consult or through our online calendar by clicking here . This session is for you to get to know each other a little more, share about your journey, and tell us more about your day-to-day life and the concerns that brought you to us. By the end of your first session we’ll have a shared understanding of your goals for ADHD therapy and you should feel confident knowing how we’ll get there together.

Step Four:

Give us feedback along the way – what you like, what you don't, and what you want to be different, so we can truly tailor your ADHD counselling process to exactly what you need. Don't worry. Not only can we take feedback, but we welcome it! We know it's a huge sign of your growth.

Step Five:

Celebrate your progress – we're here to highlight your achievements and validate all your hard work – we see you, and we're so proud!

Booking an ADHD Counselling Consultation

Your journey starts with your choice of a phone or video consultation, giving you an opportunity to share more about your hopes and concerns, ask questions, and explore what meaningful change could look like for you in ADHD counselling.

We encourage you to share as much of your experience and expectations as you're comfortable with. Our therapists will meet you where you're at and match your stage of change. You'll finish with a clear picture of your tailored ADHD counselling journey, whether in-person or remotely.

The fit between the counsellor and the client is the most important part of success on your ADHD therapy journey. There's no risk to a consultation – if by the end of our call, you decide you'd like a different therapeutic approach or if your therapist thinks you may be better matched with someone else, even a trusted colleague outside of our practice, our priority is finding you the best possible fit.
